Foster care cases in Mecklenburg are languishing.
We are on a mission to change that.
The NC Child Welfare manual states:
County child welfare agencies must make concerted efforts to achieve permanence for the child in a timely manner. The following timeframes must be met for the corresponding permanent plans:
-
Reunification - 12 months
-
Guardianship/Custody - 18 months
-
Adoption - 24 months
Mecklenburg County Statistics
Average of last 12 months data from 2/1/2026 State Performance Standard Report
Foster care is designed to be a temporary situation for children who cannot safely live with their families. But for too many kids, temporary is stretching into years of uncertainty — shuffling between homes, workers, and judges — their childhoods slipping away in the process.
